In it’s short history, SOF has always emphasized on how important the voice of the youth is and has provided various platforms for the youth to let this voice be heard. Similar to last year, Sounds of Freedom presents to you, two brilliantly talented and socially conscious youth performance groups; Vocal Rasta and Natya Rasta, both part of the Yuva Ekta Foundation.
Natya Rasta and the Teamwork Arts Outreach programme work with young students to create a street theatre performance.
Focused on the gender equality theme, they have come up with an extraordinary street play – ‘Gender Bender’. It is truly a hard look at our social conditioning, our attitudes and beliefs that lie at the core of all our relationships. When will we evolve towards a more ‘gender-just’ world?
Vocal Rasta has been performing for the past few months and was recently seen at the Zee Jaipur Literature Festival. The group comprises of 15 performers singing A Capella (only voices).
Trained by Antoine Redon and Subhadra Kamath, they bring together a rich repertoire celebrating Freedom of Creative Expression through popular renditions of songs such as Hum Dekho Chal Pade, composed specially by Kailash Kher… as well as create original compositions, “Freedom”, “Love”, “Respect”, “Chain”, “Right Left”. Vocal Rasta will perform in colleges as part of the Sounds of Freedom outreach program.
This year, Vocal Rasta and Natya Rasta will lead the youth in expressing their opinions and Be the Voice.
